Middle School Boot Camps

"These two courses will be an overview of foundational skills in Pre-Algebra and Algebra I.  We will ask essential questions and seek to understand the full implication of concepts rather than simply acquiring facts and procedures in isolation.  Students will be encouraged to be structured and sequential in the presentation of all work. I want these programs to be active, fun, and rewarding, after all this is still summer break!  Forewarned this will not be a passive experience and I promise we will smile and laugh along the way."   - Bob McGee

Pre-Algebra Boot Camp: Through discussion and discovery, we will explore strategies for problem solving, fractions, percent, area and volume.  Students will learn about things like orders of operation, integers, and one and two-step equations and inequalities. Time permitting, we will go over graphing too.

This class is taught by Robert McGee and assistants, with a 1:5 teacher-student ratio. The main goal is to teach the students systems and structures that will help them succeed. This class is perfect for 5th and 6th graders, and 7th graders who want to solidify their skills.

This camp runs August 19-23 from 1:00-3:00pm.  The cost is $115 for the week, with a non refundable $50 deposit due to hold the spot.  Space is limited.

In the Foundations of Algebra camp, we'll demystify the dreaded algebra word problems and explore rational expressions (less scary than it sounds).  Through discussion and discovery, students will learn about selected topics in geometry and trigonometry, multi step equations and inequalities with rational numbers, polynomials, exponents, graphing, factoring, and time permitting radicals.

This class is taught by Robert McGee and assistants for a maximum 1:5 teacher-student ratio.  This class is designed for 7th and 8th graders and 9th graders who want to review or solidify their skills. Our aim is to show students how to set up systems and structures that will help them succeed!

This camp runs August 19-23 from 10am-noon.  The cost is $115 for the week.  A non refundable $50 deposit is due to reserve a space, along with a one time $25 registration fee.

This Math Boot Camp is here to help your student feel more confident when entering the new school year. Alan Samet and his assistants will be teaching the course, ensuring a 1:5 teacher-to-student ratio. During the camp, your student will cover topics like solving tricky quadratic equations, interpreting expressions that don't follow the usual rules, tackling word problems with quadratics and exponentials, dealing with radicals and rational exponents, doing operations with rational expressions and polynomials, figuring out polynomial factors and graphs, analyzing nonlinear equation graphs, solving linear and quadratic systems, exploring the structure in expressions, and isolating quantities.

This boot camp also covers concepts that are commonly found on the SAT exam, so it's a great way for your student to prepare for that too!

The camp runs August 5-9th from 12:30-3:30pm for a cost of $150. A $50 deposit is required to reserve a spot, along with a one time Study Hall registration fee of $25.  A graphing calculator is needed (please contact Study Hall if you need assistance with obtaining a calculator).

Space is limited.

The SAT Strategy Boot Camp helps students feel more confident taking the SAT. The SAT assesses a student's preparedness for college and measures a their ability to analyze and solve problems. Many questions on the SAT follow certain patterns, and while practice is essential, there are also test-taking strategies that can help students feel more confident and reduce anxiety during the test. The SAT questions can be challenging because of their format, particularly the multiple-choice ones.

The SAT Strategy Boot Camp will explore the best ways to approach the various types of SAT questions. Attendees are requested to bring a graphing calculator. If you have trouble acquiring one, please contact Study Hall.

This class can be taken alone, but for those who need to improve their math scores, we recommend taking it together with the H.S. Math Boot Camp.

The SAT Strategy Boot Camp runs August 5-9th from 10am-noon for a cost of $150. A $50 deposit is required to reserve a spot, along with a one time Study Hall registration fee of $25.  A graphing calculator is needed (please contact Study Hall if you need assistance with obtaining a calculator).
